Vehicle Description The Start of an Era:
1955 Thunderbird The 1955 Thunderbird was Ford's entry into the two-passenger sports car arena with its personal car.
While it was a response to the Corvette, the T-bird (as it quickly became known) was designed to be a comfortable driving vehicle rather than a competition car.
Our '55 is restored to a level that makes it a tribute to the vision encompassed in that first year's model.
A Beautiful Restoration This T-bird was the subject of a full frame-up restoration.
The car looks and runs much like it did when it left the showroom back in 1955:
Great Finish The car is refinished in its original Raven Black, and the quality of the paint almost rivals show car standards.
Black is a color that shows a car's every flaw, but there are few flaws to see on this Thunderbird.
The underside of the Thunderbird is free of rust and corrosion other than normal surface rust, and has had a new exhaust system installed.
Like-new Interior The black and white vinyl interior is in like new condition from the padded dash to the back of the seat--and everything in between.
Convertible Top The canvas (as original) convertible top is in excellent condition and the rear windows are clear and free of any discoloration.
Mechanically Excellent The car is powered by the 292 cid V-8 that was a reliable and powerful Ford engine.
The car starts right up and runs the way you would expect.
If you opened the hood to the engine bay on this new T-bird in 1955, it wouldn't have looked much different than it does today:
bright and clean.
This T-bird is equipped with Ford's automatic transmission:
the Ford-O-Matic.
The transmission shifts properly, allowing the driver to enjoy the trip, particularly when confronted with the increasing amount of traffic in most urban/suburban areas.
Safety and Luxury Equipment All of the safety equipment works properly (lights, signals, horn, wipers), as do the gauges, warning lights, tachometer and speedometer.
The car has 4 real wire wheels with mounted radial whitewalls.
The luxury equipment includes power windows, a power seat.
Back to the '50s in Style Ford Motor Company called the Thunderbird a personal vehicle, and made the car into a luxurious way to go to the country club, Saturday night dinner or even to the grocery store.
There is perhaps no other car that is more representative of the '50s and the start of the automobile revolution than the 1955 Thunderbird.
During the three years of these baby birds, there is none more memorable than the '55 T-bird.
Whether on the local show fields or re-dedicated to its original purpose:
an absolutely wonderful personal driving experience, this Ford is for you! For more information call 540-370-4474.
