Physician - Medical Director

The successful candidate promotes standards of clinical competence and conduct for staff which are maintained through compliance with the credentialing and privileging processes, monitoring and evaluation of clinical practice, peer review, and other appropriate quality assurance activities. The incumbent recommends appointment and clinical privileges for CBOC physicians and is responsible for ensuring that individuals with clinical privileges competently provide service within the scope of privileges granted. There may be other duties as assigned by the supervisor based on individual competence and organizational needs. Strong administrative and organizational support is available to support the position. The incumbent should possess sufficient clinical knowledge and experience to monitor and assess clinical competencies and practices; sufficient interpersonal skills to deal harmoniously with a diverse population of internal and external customers; sufficient time management skills to prioritize completion of a high volume workload; and the ability to achieve results in the setting of constrained resources. Responsibilities:
Responsible for oversight and management of one community based outpatient clinic (CBOC) location. First line supervisor for employees working at this CBOC. (Duties will include scheduling, leave approval, time certification, and performance evaluation) Leads all employees to ensure a consistent high level of service at the CBOC location. Works closely with other clinical service chiefs to support a collaborative effort to improve patient care in all CBOC locations. Participates in CBOC related strategic planning, quality management, and program development. Serves on committees as requested. Works with patient representatives and facility leadership to resolve patient complaints and issues. Assure physician training in TMS and other venues including maintaining CMEs, BLS, and other requisites for medical staff. Clinical Duties and
Responsibilities:
Incumbent may be expected to carry a small panel size necessary to maintain clinical proficiency as determined by the Section Chief, Community Based Ambulatory Care. Initial and ongoing assessment of patient's medical, physical, and psychosocial status. Obtain and document a comprehensive medical and psychological history and physical examination. Order appropriate diagnostic tests. Review and interpret laboratory tests and take appropriate action. Formulates and record diagnostic impressions. Refer patients to consultations with specialty clinics. Provide medical advice to patients, families, and community health providers by telephone. Manage chronic medical problems. Manage minor acute medical problems. Enter orders into CPRS for medications, consults, testing, etc. Work Schedule:

United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below LICENSURE:
Board Eligible/Board Certified and possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motion and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials. Preference:
Ability to qualify for an academic appointment; Experience with the patient center medical home and/or PACT model is highly desirable and Graduate degree or additional training in healthcare administration highly desirable. Note:
